Heather Buchheit's Nationalism Proj HomeThis is a featured page

The term "nationalism" refers to strong feelings of patriotism and pride for one's home nation and really

caught on quickly from the first time it was introduced.

I am part German for this assignment I will focus on my German background. I interviewed my dad and my

grandfather for this project as my grandma who probably would have been a much better source recently

passed away. I will try to include as much informationas possible although I am not sure how much of this

is accurate. I also am part irish but will not be focusing on that part.

Although Germany was still divided into 38 sovereign states after the revolutions of 1848,

there was a customs union, the Zollverein, that developed throughout northern Germany in

the part outside the Austrian Empire. The last part of the war against Napleon was known as the War

of Liberation in Germany. There had never been a united German state, but Germans saw what power a

united France had achieved.

There were two great German Romantics. The first being Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) he was

believed to be Germany's greatest poet. The second being Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814) he was a

great German Philosopher. German Idealism saw the world as a creation of subjective egos. For example

they believed that the world was created by humankind.
